A Look At Week 2 Football Matchups In North Dakota

There is a full slate of North Dakota football games this Friday with all four divisions playing under the lights, but here are three games I decided to breakout from the pack and preview in depth:

1. CLASS 2A – Kindred (1-0) at No. 1 Minot Ryan (1-0), 6 p.m.

The Vikings make the long trip to Minot on Friday to play the No. 1-ranked Lions, who are coming off a 20-0 abbreviated win over Velva last week. … Minot Ryan tied with Bismarck St. Mary’s for No. 1 in the first poll of the season and looks to be one of the top teams in the Class 2A West Region. … Kindred opened the season with a blowout win over the West Fargo Sheyenne junior varsity and will enter Friday without having played a game for 10 days. … Last year’s meeting between the two teams ended with the Vikings earning a 28-22 win over the Lions (ranked No. 5 at the time) in Kindred. … Eric Bachmeier was the player of the game rushing for 210 yards on 27 carries and three touchdowns. In addition, Bachmeier also returned a kickoff for a touchdown. … Minot Ryan’s Austin Eggl didn’t play at quarterback in that game until the second half and finished 18 of 26 passing for 172 yards. Fast forward a year and the Bachmeier-Eggl showdown is once again set. It stands to be an interesting game.

2. CLASS 3A – No. 3 Fargo South (1-0) at No. 2 Bismarck Century, 7 p.m. (Community Bowl)

Two ranked teams clash in Class 3A clash in Week 2 of the season. … The Bruins are coming off a 48-14 win over Mandan in Week 1 and the Patriots opened their season with a 46-7 win on the road at Fargo Davies. … South’s last meeting with Century was a 16-13 loss at home in the Class 3A semifinals. Both the Bruins and Patriots can rack up yards and points so this could wind up being a shootout. In regards to returning experience, I give a slight edge to South. … This however will be a big road test for the Bruins early on in the 2013 season.

3. CLASS 3A – No. 1 Bismarck (1-0) at West Fargo (0-1), 7 p.m.

The defending Class 3A champions come to West Fargo armed with an 18-game winning streak. … West Fargo happens to be the last team that gave that winning streak a test when it was up 8-7 on the Demons in the fourth quarter of last season’s semifinals matchup. … The Demons ultimately won that game and completed a 12-0 season a week later with a 20-0 win over Bismarck Century in the state championship game. … West Fargo received votes in the opening 3A poll, but has started the season 0-1 after a 27-0 loss to Minot last week. Bismarck scored a 28-0 win over Grand Forks Red River in Week 1. … Noah DuBord carried the ball 12 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns for the Demons.
