Thursday night an impressive North Dakota preps sports streak came to an end. Fargo Davies defeated Fargo Shanley 3-1 at Sid Cichy Stadium handing Shanley its first Eastern Dakota Conference loss of the season. Prior to Thursday, the Deacons hadn’t lost a regular season match since Oct. 4, 2011.
The Deacons streak of 21 matches in the EDC without a loss was impressive and shouldn’t go without mention as the state tournament nears.
Also it is important to give Davies it due for not only getting the win against the Deacons, but also making a late-season push in the EDC standings.
Davies’ Robert Rapp, Andrew Nawrot each scored second half goals to give the Eagles the win over Shanley. The Eagles are 3-4-3 in the EDC and 5-5-5 overall. Davies currently is in third place in the EDC and if the season were to end today it would qualify for the state tournament.
Davies has won three of its last four matches and has two regular-season matches remaining – a home contest against Fargo North on Saturday and a road match against Grand Forks Central on Tuesday.
