Three Seeds In Class 2A East Region Football Still Up For Grabs

There are two weeks left in the North Dakota football regular season. Playoffs are right around the corner, but there is still a lot left undecided in the East Region of Class 2A.

Three playoff spots remain up for grabs and there are six teams looking to fill those vacancies. No. 3-ranked Fargo Shanley (6-1, 5-0 East Region) has already clinched a playoff berth.

No 4-ranked Wahpeton is 4-1 in the East region and 6-1 overall and can clinch a playoff spot Saturday with a win over Grafton.

Lisbon (4-3) currently sits at third place in the East Region standings with a 3-2 mark. Lisbon hosts Central Cass tomorrow and a win over the Squirrels would do wonders for its playoff chances. The Broncos play Shanley in their final game of the year and if they were to defeat Central Cass they would own head-to-head tie breakers over the Squirrels as well as Kindred and Grafton.

After the Broncos, there are four teams (Kindred, Central Cass, Valley City and Grafton) that all share a 2-3 record against East Region competition.

Out in the West Region, the playoff picture is much less complicated. No. 1 Bishop Ryan, No. 2 Bismarck Century, No. 5 Beulah and Watford City have all clinched playoff berths and all that is left to be determined is seeding. The Lions and Saints are undefeated and meet in the regular season finale (Thursday, Oct. 24).

Here is the East Region composite schedule for the final two weeks of the season:

Central Cass at Lisbon, 1 p.m.
Enderlin-Maple Valley at Kindred, 1 p.m.
No. 4 Wahpeton at Grafton, 7 p.m.
No. 3 Shanley at Valley City, 5 p.m.

Valley City at Central Cass, 7 p.m.
Grafton at Kindred, 7 p.m.
Lisbon at Fargo Shanley, 7 p.m.
Enderlin-Maple Valley at Wahpeton, 7 p.m.
