The regular season is over and the playoffs have arrived. Here are your top area performances from the regular season finales.
Michael Strand – Barnesville
Strand had 208 yards rushing and five touchdowns on six carries. If that wasn’t enough, he also had one catch for a 35-yard touchdown. If that wasn’t enough, he also had a 32-yard punt return for a touchdown. All this was just enough to overlook his three missed extra points in Barnesville’s 61-0 drubbing of West Central Area.
Jared Olsgaard – Park Christian
Park Christian needed a win for a first-round home playoff game and Olsgaard got them one, rushing for 126 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries and going 9-of-16 passing for 179 yards and a touchdown to lead the Falcons over Norman County East-Ulen-Hitterdal 41-27.
Chad Johnson – Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton
Johnson ran for 243 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries to lead D-G-F over Roseau 25-12.
Parker Busse – Breckenridge
Busse had two touchdowns and 132 yards on 17 carries to lead Breckenridge to a co-championship with Hawley in the Heart O’ Lakes Classic thanks to a 33-7 beating of Pelican Rapids.
Nick Trosdahl – Otter Tail Central
Trosdahl rushed for 129 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries and had two catches for 36 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown pass to lead Otter Tail Central by United North Central 48-6.
Hesston Bachmann – Frazee
Bachmann had 27 carries for 160 yards and two touchdowns to go along with a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown to lead Frazee to a 34-15 win over Fosston.
Moorhead’s final offensive play
Never had a play make it on the players of the week before, but it’s hard to leave off the 43-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Eidsness to wide receiver Brett Lawrence with nine seconds to play in a 28-21 win over Bemidji.
After the Brainerd game, in which Moorhead saw a 20-0 lead evaporate and lost in overtime 26-23 to the team with the best QRF ranking in Class 5a, Moorhead coach Kevin Feeney said he apologized to Brett Lawrence for not getting him the ball. He found him.
Jordan Harms/Ben Ellefson/Dillon Omberg – Hawley
Harms was 10-for-16 passing for 157 yards and two touchdowns, both of which went to Ellefson, who had six catches for 90 yards. The two each had a rushing touchdown as well to go along with Omberg’s 120 yards rushing and two TDs on eight carries in Hawley’s 52-14 win over Staples-Motley
JD Kappes/Lance Ruebke – Ada-Borup
Kappes was 25-for-30 passing for 268 yards and four touchdowns, 13 throws went to Ruebke for 98 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough in the 42-39 loss to Warren-Alvarado-Oslo.
Austin Reitan – Mahnomen
Mahnomen made it 22 straight wins behind Reitan’s 153 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Cameron Maudal – Wheaton-Herman-Norcross
Maudal had touchdown passes of 17, 29 and 16 to go along with a 53-yard touchdown run to lead W-H-N over Fergus Falls Hillcrest 68-14.
Ryan Weber – Waubun
Weber had touchdown runs of 59, 39 and 2 to lead Waubun over Rothsay 30-6.
Jarett Nosal – Detroit Lakes
DL locked up a No. 1 seed in Class 4A, Section 8 thanks to touchdown runs of 46 and 55 for Nosal in an 18-7 win over Pequot Lakes. He finished with 148 yards on 18 carries.
Dillon Card – Verndale
Card ran for 106 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries to go along with a 20-yard touchdown pass to lead Verndale by Ortonville 12-6.
