North Dakota High School Football Regular Season Officially Ends Tonight

Well after tonight another North Dakota High School football regular season will be in the books with the final Class 3A and Class 2A game sof the year. 9-man and 1A begin their playoffs Saturday.

In 3A all the playoff teams have been decided. The only matter left undecided is seeding. The East Region has four 4-1 teams gridlocked and all four – Fargo Davies, Fargo South, West Fargo and Grand Forks Red River – all have a shot at being the No. 1 seed. On the other side of the coin, all four of those teams have a shot at being the No. 4 seed as well. Out West, No. 2-ranked Minot and No. 1-ranked Bismarck will play for the No. 1 seed from the West Region. The Demons have a 25-game winning streak going, which dates back to the 2011 season. The Magicians will be the final team to have a chance to break that streak in the regular season. No. 3-ranked Bismarck Century will be the No. 3 seed from the West Region and Jamestown will be the No. 4 seed.

In Class 2A all but one playoff spot has been clinched. Three teams – Kindred, Central Cass, and Grafton – all have a chance at earning the No. 4 seed from the East Region. Kindred (4-4, 3-3 East Region) hosts Grafton (3-5, 2-4) and Central Cass (3-5, 2-4) hosts Valley City (3-5, 2-4) tonight. Kindred’s only chance at earning the No. 4 seed is to defeat Grafton tonight. If the Vikings lose and Central Cass defeats the Hi-Liners, there would be a three-way tie between the Squirrels, Spoilers and Vikings. All three would be 1-1 in head-to-head matchups, but the Squirrels would win the point-differential tiebreaker. For the Spoilers to make the playoffs, they would need a win against Kindred and Central Cass loss to Valley City. The Spoilers own a head-to-head tiebreaker with Kindred and Valley City.

It should be a great night for High School football in North Dakota and fitting way to close out the 2013 regular season.
