For the second straight season Class 3A, No. 4-ranked Fargo South enters the Class 3A playoffs as the top seed from the East Region. … The Bruins finished the regular season with wins against Fargo Davies and Grand Forks Red River. … South averaging 39.1 points per game this fall and is giving up 19.8 points per game. … The last home playoff game the Bruins hosted was a 16-13 loss to Bismarck Century in the 2012 3A semifinals. … South junior running back James Johannesson currently sits at 1,928 rushing yards (214.2 yards per game). … Jamestown is making its first trip to the 3A quarterfinals since 2007. … Jamestown has been defeated by the Bruins in three of its last quarterfinal playoff games. … The Blue Jays are led by senior tailback Taylor Orr who is close to 1,000 yards running mark this fall. A quartet of senior linebackers – Triston Shipley, Ethan Gumke, Tommy Burns and Marc Wagner – anchor Jamestown’s defense, which will have to key in on stopping Johannesson and the rest of South dynamic playmakers which includes junior running back Ty Brooks and senior quarterback Zach Kellen.

2. East Region, No. 3 seeded Grand Forks Red River (5-4) at West Region, No. 2-seeded Minot (8-1), 7 p.m.

The Roughriders and 3A, No. 2-ranked Magicians met during the regular season, which Minot won by a 41-21 margin in Grand Forks. … Minot is coming off a 28-14 loss to No. 1-ranked Bismarck in the regular season finale, which is the Magicians only loss this season. Red River is led by senior quarterback Chad Bartosh who leads the Eastern Dakota Conference with 1,092 passing yards. … Bartosh completes 47.2 percent of his passes and has thrown 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this year. … Minot is led by sophomore quarterback Ben Bolinske, who was 19 of 31 passing against the Demons on Friday. Bolinske finished with 311 yards passing so this could be a battle of the QBs. … Minot also features the West Region’s top defensive unit. … Both Red River and Minot were eliminated in the quarterfinals last season.

3. East Region, No. 4-seeded West Fargo (4-4) at West Region, No. 1-seeded Bismarck (9-0), 7 p.m.

The No. 1-ranked Demons are in the midst of a 26-game winning streak. Their last loss was Oct. 7, 2011 against Mandan. Since then the Demons have won back-to-back 3A titles (2011 and 2012). … Bismarck is led by senior running back Ricardo Galindo, who rushed for 193 yards and four touchdowns in the Demons’ 28-14 win over Minot on Friday. … Galindo rushed for 410 yards in one game (a 55-49 win against Fargo South on Sept. 27). … The Demons also get plenty of offense from junior quarterback Hayden Gibson and senior wide receiver Jon Tharaldsen. … The Demons defeated West Fargo 31-14 in a Week 2 matchup on Sept. 6. … West Fargo is led by senior quarterback Scott Cameron, who finished the year 41 of 89 passing for 473 yards and three touchdowns. The Packers were without junior running back Sam Olsen the final two games of the regular season with a shoulder injury. Olsen rushed for 325 yards in six games this season to lead the Packers. Expect senior wide receiver Jacob Blotsky and junior Jacob Hoy to be active in West Fargo’s offensive game plan for Friday against the Demons. … West Fargo fell to Bismarck last fall in the state semifinals.

4. West Region, No. 3-seeded Bismarck Century (6-2) at East Region No. 2-seeded Fargo Davies (6-3), 7 p.m.

The 3A, No. 5-ranked Eagles and No. 3-ranked Patriots met during the regular-season opener, which Century won by a 46-7 margin at Fargo Davies High School. Friday will be Davies’ first home-playoff game in school history. … Davies began competing as a varsity program in 2010 and has qualified for the playoffs twice – the other appearance coming in 2011. … Davies doesn’t feature one specific tailback, but have five ball carriers – Alek Groth, Dylan Hughes, Daylon Melby, Aidan Hartness and Jordan Hjelseth – that can do damage. Hartness leads the offense at quarterback and finished the regular season second in the EDC in passing yards with 982. One his favorite targets is his twin brother Tristan, who hauled in 467 yards and three touchdowns this season despite missing two games with a concussion. … Century is coming off a 49-7 win against Mandan in its regular season finale. … Sophomore quarterback Dalton Feeney led the way finishing 10 of 13 passing for 135 and two touchdowns. … Both TDs were caught by senior receiver Tyler Rudolph.
