Breakdown Of The Minnesota Wrestling Rankings For The Area

The Guillotine released their high school rankings for Minnesota high school wrestling Nov. 29. The next rankings will come out Dec. 13


For area teams, Perham was ranked No. 11 in Class 2A, while Frazee was ranked No. 2 and Barnesville was ranked No. 9 in Class 1A.

Perham finished sixth in the state last season. Frazee lost in the Class 1A state title to Jackson County Central last season and Barnesville finished sixth.

In Class 3A, Moorhead came away with two wrestlers ranked individually. Junior Grant Brendemuhl is ranked No. 8 at 106 pounds and sophomore Joseph Grove was ranked No. 10 at 182 pounds.

Class 2A

In Class 2A, Fergus Falls junior Gus Makovsky comes in the 182-pound weight class at No. 4. Parker Jackson, a Detroit Lakes junior, is No. 5 at 152 pounds and Perham junior William Parks comes in at No. 7 at 182 pounds.

Lake Park-Audubon senior Mason Swegarden (145 pounds), Fergus Falls senior Dane Ringquist (160), Fergus Falls junior Abram Aho (195) and Detroit Lakes freshman James Huwe (285) each come in ranked No. 8 in their respective weight classes.

Class 1A

Border West’s Cameron Sykora leads the way with the top ranking at 120 pounds, while teammate Austin Maanum is No. 2 at 170 pounds.

Verndale’s Dillon Card, a junior who recently picked up his 100th career win, comes in at No. 2 at 195 and New York Mills senior Tyler Patron starts the season at No. 3 at 195.

Verndale junior Anthony Kern is No. 3 at 106 pounds, while Frazee junior Austin Skillings comes in at No. 5 at 138. Breckenridge’s Conrad Kondos starts his senior year ranked No. 5 at 126.

Frazee freshman Tanner Reetz (113), Frazee junior Byron Byer (120) and Frazee junior Garett Malstrom (285) each come in ranked sixth in their respective classes.

Four area individuals got seventh spots in their classes: Border West sophomore Tracer Lee at 126, Barnesville senior Kyler Votava at 132, Barnesville sophomore Conner Meyer at 138 and Kody VanDenEykel, senior from Frazee, at 182.

Four area inviduals also got eighth spots in their classes: Willie Meine (113), sophomore from Fertile-Beltrami, Mitchell Lundeen (126), senior from Fertile-Beltrami, Hayden Truax (152), Verndale junior, and Dan Berg (182), junior from Barnesville, each picked up No. 8 spots.

New York Mills junior Jeremiah Harper (113), Frazee sophomore Grant Jepson (126), Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton senior Alex Johnson (132), Barnesville junior Rylee Anderson (145), Mahnomen-Waubun junior Jonathon Hoffner (160) and West Central Area-Ashby-Evansville junior Hunter Fick (195) each round out the rankings in their respective class at No. 10.
