The Spuds will cross the Red River later this week for a nonconference dual with Fargo North … The Spartans are the defending EDC champions and took third place at state last season. … North graduated several point scorers, but return several All-EDC swimmers like Tanner Bjorlie, Palmer Obembe, Steven Rider, and Ben Wenzel. … Also returning for the Spartans is junior diver Brady Coughlin, who is the defending diving champion in North Dakota.

Class A boys basketball fans should circle this game as “must-see” game. … Red River is a perennial contender for the Eastern Dakota Conference championship and has started the year 3-0. … The Roughriders are led by senior forward Chad Bartosh, who is averaging 25.0 ppg. … Davies was the only EDC team to defeat Red River during the regular season last year. … The Eagles are led by senior guards Tanner Kretchman and Andrew Kozlowski. … Kozlowski is averaging 27.5 points per game and Kretchman is close behind with 26.5 ppg. Look for a lot of points to be scored in this game. I’m throwing out a “BARN BURNER ALERT ADVISORY” for good measure.
